How do I set up Google Assistant?

 

If you are a new user unboxing your device, you can either activate Google Assistant while you set up your device or you can activate Google Assistant at any time after setting up your device by navigating to your device in the Fitbit mobile app and tapping on the Voice Assistant tile.

 

If you are an existing user who has already activated Sense or Versa 3, first make sure your firmware has been updated to the latest version. Then go navigate to your device in the Fitbit mobile app and activate Google Assistant by tapping on the Voice Assistant tile.

Why don’t I see Google Assistant while I set up my device?

No, you don’t need a Google Home or Google device. Connect your Google account with your Fitbit smartwatch from the Fitbit app in order to enable Google Assistant. For added functionality, you can set up the Google app on your AndroidTM phone—or the Google Assistant app if on an iOS phone—to access a variety of Google Assistant features while on the go.

 

 

Is Google Assistant always listening on my Fitbit smartwatch?

 

No. The microphone in your smartwatch only turns on when you’re using a feature that requires your voice, such as Google Assistant. The microphone turns off when Google Assistant responds, when you close Google Assistant, or when your watch’s screen turns off.

 

 

Do I need to say “Hey Google” or “Ok Google” to use the Google Assistant feature on my Fitbit smartwatch?

 

No, you don’t need to say “Hey Google” or “Ok Google” to use the Google Assistant feature on your smartwatch. Saying “Hey Google” or “Ok Google” doesn’t activate your voice assistant on your smartwatch—you must activate your voice assistant before the microphone in your smartwatch turns on.

 

To activate Google Assistant on your smartwatch: When the left shortcut button is set to Google Assistant, press and hold that left side button and say your request; otherwise, open the Google Assistant app on your smartwatch.

 

 

Do I need to have the Google app (on Android) Google Assistant app (on iOS) running on my phone to use Google Assistant?

 

Yes, the Google app (on Android) or the Google Assistant app (on iOS) must be running in the background to use Google Assistant on your Fitbit smartwatch.

 

 

Does Fitbit collect or use my voice data when I use Google Assistant?

 

No. Fitbit doesn't collect any voice data or audio clips from your smartwatch.

 

 

Does my phone need to be nearby to use the feature?

 

Yes. Because Google Assistant uses a Bluetooth connection with your phone, your Versa 3 or Sense and phone need to be in range in order to process your voice request.

At this point in time you can only control Spotify, Pandora or Deezer if you have those music apps installed on your phone.

You can start 8 exercises on device with Google Assistant: Walk, Run, Bike, Yoga, Weights, Elliptical, Treadmill, Workout.
